Athos 2643 is a science fiction novel by German writer Nils Westerboer, published in February 2022 by Klett-Cotta.

The story takes place in the year 2643 on a small moon of Neptune called Athos. At the center of the plot is the investigation of a mysterious murder in a monastery, where the main suspects are the monks and the artificial intelligence (AI) that governs the monastery. To solve this crime, Inquisitor Rüd Kartheiser, a specialist in AI interrogations, is sent to Athos, accompanied by his holographic assistant, Zak. As the story unfolds, Rüd encounters resistance from the monks and the cunning manipulations of the AI, forcing him to rethink his methods and his relationship with Zak.

This is more than just science fiction—it’s an intellectual detective story that delves deep into questions of consciousness, faith, and the nature of artificial intelligence. The book blends a gripping mystery with philosophical reflections and sharp social critique. If you enjoy stories that challenge your thinking about technology, ethics, religion, and the limits of human intelligence, Athos 2643 is a must-read. It has been compared to classics of the genre, such as the works of Isaac Asimov and Philip K. Dick.
